What's in a name?

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

Dragonflies live most of their life in water as a nymph while they grow and develop into an adult (what we see), which can take years. When they are ready to transform into an adult, they climb up for air, bust out of their skin, pump their wings and fly! The lifespan of the beautiful adult dragonfly is often very short (just a few months), reminding us to live fully – our best life.

I often have members and guests to the studio ask why I chose the name Dragonfly. Why “Dragonfly” Fitness & Training? For me, it represents transformation and living life to its fullest.

The transformation that Dragonfly is centered upon is not so much a physical transformation like you may think, but more about what takes place on the inside: strength, confidence, and the ability to do things you never thought possible. I believe this is the best kind of transformation, and the most important and necessary one of all. The changes that take place on the outside are bonus. It’s hard to be happy with the way you look on the outside if you aren’t happy with the way you feel on the inside.

We’ve seen many ladies transform in so many ways since our doors have opened. They may come in because they just want to get healthy, get active or lose weight. What they get is so much more. It’s a beautiful thing. I know this because training gave me the confidence I needed to believe in myself, and the strength to fall down and keep standing back up.

Because dragonflies have such a short life as the beautiful adults that we see flying around, it’s a reminder to us that life is short and to live fully – to live our best life. I truly believe that our best life can be achieved when we are healthy, strong and confident.

For all those reasons, Dragonfly is a very special place to me. I want it to also be a special place for others…a stop along the journey to their best life, a push in the right direction, a light at the end of the tunnel. And I believe that it is – thanks to the amazing group of women that work here and that train here.
