October Member of the Month

Congratulations to October Member of the Month, Jessica!

Jessica was nominated this month by Coach Denise. She says Jessica brightens each class she trains in, and always has a smile and a word of encouragement/praise for her fellow members. Jessica has been very consistent and made the transition from CardioStrong to Strength with a positive attitude. When I have a suggestion or a tip, she welcomes it and is always game to try something new.

Jessica has battled through some things, but she never seems to let it get her down.  She inspires me to look on the bright side and forge ahead with a smile of gratitude for what we are able to do.

Learn more about Jessica...

What brought you to Dragonfly? I joined Dragonfly after finishing treatment for breast cancer. My treatments might have been over, but my healing was just beginning. I needed to find a way to feel comfortable with, and in control of, my own body. I remember walking into my first class – I was weak (physically and emotionally), bald, self-conscious and could not finish my first workout (in my defense, dragonfly progressions were part of my very first class!). But I was not going to quit. It wasn’t – and still isn’t – always pretty but I never regret going to a class.

Does the Dragonfly community play a part in your gym experience? I have learned so much from my Dragonfly community, here are a few of my favorite lessons:

·        Pregnant women that work out until their due dates are beyond fierce.

·        You may not recognize your Dragonfly friends when they are showered, dressed,

and wearing makeup

·        If you wear a push-up bra on bench press days, you don’t have to lower the bar as

far.

·        Jump roping was much easier – and more fun – as a child.

·        Women supporting women can truly lead to life-changing moments.

Is there anything that strength training has taught you or given you that you weren't expecting? I learned that I am strong and I remember the day I realized it. I was pushing the prowler – which used to terrify me – and something clicked in my brain. I was doing it! And, if I could do that, maybe I could try to move to the barbell. And if I could do the barbell, I could probably add more weight to the barbell. I love the confidence that Dragonfly has given me. And I appreciate the opportunities to do more – for myself and my community. I don’t just love the workouts and the people, I am proud to be part of the Dragonfly community.

You're awesome Jessica! Congrats and thank you for being here!

Each month Dragonfly coaches nominate members who are standing out, overcoming obstacles, and giving it their all. It’s always a hard choice to decide upon one!
