Congrats to January Member of the Month, Rita!
Rita consistently gets in and works damn hard but laughs while doing it! She sets her mind on a goal and makes it happen (floor push-ups in 2022!!). Rita is committed to her health and makes a point to get in even on days when she’s not 100% feeling it.
We asked Rita some questions about her experience at Dragonfly and this is what she had to say:
What brought you to Dragonfly?
I’d sold my horse a couple of months before, and I was starting to feel like a lump from lack of exercise. While I’m not really an indoor exerciser by nature, an all women’s space sounded appealing.
What motivates you to be consistent with your training?
Honestly, I’m paying for it! I’m such an old Yankee cheapskate. You’ve nailed what keeps me accountable. I am also really motivated by goals, so those tiny personal bests — 5 more pounds, a few more seconds, are huge for me.
Is there anything that strength training has taught you or given you that you weren’t expecting?
The 8-week cycles have shifted my mindset. In the past, when we did a movement that I found difficult, my self-talk would be, “I hate this movement. I suck.” After a couple of years of seeing how those tricky movements improve the most by the end of the 8 weeks, my self-talk is way more patient. More like, “Ugh, this movement is hard, but it will feel better in a few weeks.” So, both my body and brain are learning new tricks in my 50’s :).
Thanks, Rita! We’re happy you’re here!
