Be Confident Enough to Overcome Failure

Confidence is something that I have had to continually work on. Growing up I didn’t really have confidence. I didn’t have much of a direction. And if you’re wondering, I definitely was not athletic. I tried some stuff when I was younger, but nothing stuck. In fact, I gave up easily. It really wasn’t until my twenties that I discovered what I COULD do. I discovered I could be athletic if I worked at it. I discovered that I could be a leader if I could just be okay with possibly looking silly sometimes and messing up. And what I really discovered at the heart of it all is that if I could be confident enough to overcome failure…well, then I could do just about anything I wanted! In fact, I gained so much confidence specifically from training that I wanted to share that with other women…through Dragonfly!

Confidence can affect every area of our life from relationships to decision making to achievements. And it can help us become the person we were meant to be.

So what are some simple things you can do to become more confident? Here are a few tips that have worked for me!

  1. Look for a role model. Is there someone that you believe is always confident? Someone that is always pushing forward and doesn’t seem to have any fear? Ask them if they’ll talk with you. Find out what they do and how they do it. Chances are that they had to work on being confident!

  2. Work on your skills. Keep learning. Always practice. Take courses, attend seminars and learn from others that can help you. Be humble and always keep an open mind so you can continue to get better. Nothing creates confidence like knowledge and practice.

  3. Focus on your strengths and achievements. Sometimes we get so caught up in the one little thing we did wrong that we forget about all the things we did right. Try writing down your successes every night before you go to bed, and note how you can improve. This will help you build the confidence to keep trying and can help decrease stress. It’s definitely a great way to end the day!
