10 Ways To Get the Most Out Of Your Workout

Showing up is half the battle, but there are a few more things you need to remember in order to get the most out of your workout sessions.

Below, I give you my top 10 tips for getting the most out of your workouts.

1.  Arrive on time

At Dragonfly, we start each session with a warm-up, so it’s very important that you arrive on time. Arriving late will force you to cut corners and miss either some warm-up or workout time.

2.  Wear proper workout attire

Proper workout shoes and clothing are a must!  Mornings can get a little crazy, so be sure to put your clothes out the night before to ensure you are ready to go.

3.  Bring water

It’s important to be properly hydrated before, after, and during your workouts. Exercising while dehydrated can have an array of adverse effects, from cramps to more serious consequences. Don’t forget that water bottle! (The importance of hydration is the reason Dragonfly offers free filtered water for members!)

4.  Eat

Yes, it’s true: you need to eat in order to lose weight, build muscle, and feel great!

It will be hard to give it your all during your workout sessions if you haven’t properly fueled your body. Have a light breakfast before early-morning sessions, and a snack before mid-day sessions.

Everyone is different, so you may need a little more or a little less to eat, and the time you need to eat will vary. Experiment and take note of your energy levels!

5.  Get some sleep

Adequate sleep (that’s 7 to 9 hours) the night before your workout sessions will ensure you have plenty of energy throughout the day.

6.  Notify your coach of any issues

If you’re experiencing any pain, don’t hesitate to contact your coach.  That will help them make modifications and be more prepared for your session. If you ever experience any pain (beyond fatigue) during the session, please stop the activity and notify your coach right away.

7.  Be honest

Honest and open communication will only help you succeed. Don’t be afraid to speak up if you don’t understand something or if you’re having motivational issues.

8.  Contribute to your success outside the gym

To make the most of  your training sessions, you’ll need to clean up your eating habits and be prepared to put in additional workout time during the week. Let one fuel the other—you’re worth it!

9.  Give it all you’ve got

You’ve made the decision to get healthier and more fit, so give it everything you’ve got and you WILL see results!

10.  HAVE FUN!

And don’t forget to bring a positive attitude!
