Must-Haves For Your Healthy Shopping List

If you wanna eat healthy, you gotta have healthy food in your kitchen. And there are just some items that can really simplify things if you are feeling overwhelmed. Here are a few items that are just always at my house and I think are must-haves for your shopping list!

Eggs are such a versatile food. Great for breakfast, snacks or whatever! They can be prepared in many different ways to keep you from getting bored. Packed with vitamins, eggs are also a source of protein. But y’all…please eat more than one egg or add something else with protein to your meal. One egg generally has about 6 grams of protein depending on its size.

Nuts like cashews or almonds. They contain fat, protein and are a good source of vitamins and minerals. Add some to your morning oatmeal or eat as an afternoon snack. Just be aware of portion sizes. (Nut butters are great as well!)

Legumes like lentils or chickpeas or beans. Not only do they have protein, but they are also easy to cook and can hang out on the shelf for a while.

Sweet Potatoes are a great source of fiber, vitamin A and potassium (even moreso than a banana). Easy to batch cook for meal prep too!

Cottage Cheese and/or Greek Yogurt are both great sources of protein with low amounts of sugar. (Cottage cheese has less, but I totally get it if that’s not your thing.)

Leafy Greens like spinach or kale. Make a salad, sautée or put in a smoothie. (I also like to keep bags of salads around…because I don’t always feel like making my own.)

Avocados are delicious and nutritious. They have a ton of vitamins and minerals, and are also very high in potassium (more than a banana too).

Green beans are a good source of plenty of vitamins and minerals including  iron, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin K and silicon (which can help improve the strength of your bones). They can serve as a side dish or you could throw them in a protein bowl or in a salad. And, while all that is fantastic… they are easy to cook. 🙂

Bananas are just an easy grab and go snack. Pair with a hard boiled and and some nuts and you are good to go.

And, I suggest also picking up a few “emergency” frozen meals to have on-hand because life happens!  This will be a much better option than fast food.

Happy shopping!
