Congrats to May Member of the Month, Dannette C.!
Dannette is friendly to all and an obvious free spirit. She’s a great partner & motivator to others in class… and she’ll help the coach keep tabs on time #fiveseconds! She keeps working on getting better – endurance, strength, piano lessons, guitar lessons, hula hoop, and volunteering at non-profits.
The stories she tells between classes about ways she is working to improve herself in her retirement are inspiring! But that’s no surprise, Dannette is one of our long-time members and has been inspiring us for almost nine years!
We asked Dannette some questions about her experience at Dragonfly and this is what she had to say:
What motivates you to be consistent with your training?
Number one motivation is ‘feeling good in my skin.’ When I am consistent, I feeeeel like I’m fit, if that makes sense. I can carry things and pick things up off the floor, my clothes fit …. that kind of thing. Bonus: my food choices are influenced by consistent exercise because I crave energy that I’ll be using in class. It’s a circle of fuel for fun for more fuel AND more fun!
Does the Dragonfly community play a part in your gym experience?
Absolutely! The Dragonfly community plays a huge role! I’ve made many friends in class and love seeing us all progress. I appreciate working out alongside someone with similar goals, or someone who challenges me a bit to keep things going (“yeesh, she’s sweating!” or “keep up with her on that ladder move”, or “dang, I could probably do more reps / higher weight like so-and-so” — you know who you are!). It’s more FUN exercising with others!
Having trainers who pay attention definitely rounds out that community, I am truly grateful for the members who workout alongside me AND the trainers who lead and encourage me (and correct my form when I need it!).
What is something that used to be intimidating at the gym but now you love it and/or how might you encourage others that might be nervous?
Weight lifting. I was never looking to be a “weight lifter” but somehow, I am. Kettlebells are my favorite! It’s nice to feel my glutes after a session of KB squats, or feel strength in my shoulders and arms after OH presses or KB snatches. I feel stronger overall with all the things I can do with a kettlebell.
Thank you, Dannette, for being AWESOME and for sharing that with us here at Dragonfly!
