Introducing Black Dog Fitness

By January 13, 2020 blog
My sincere thanks for clicking through. This is a straight-from-the-heart project.
Last May my sweet Oreo passed away. He was 16 years old and we had him for two years. If we know one another then you know I love animals, and I swear that dog impacted me in ways I never expected. This all started with me sitting at my kitchen table being sad one Saturday in May…thinking I should really do something better with what I learned from him. One thing led to another and here we are…
I’ve always had a desire to make a difference through fitness, and Dragonfly is obviously a big part of that. The opportunity to expand and make more of a difference has presented itself and so – let me introduce Black Dog Fitness. Part kettlebell gym, part charitable endeavor. Black Dog will be in the space immediately next door to Dragonfly.
The intention of Black Dog Fitness is to help men and women of all fitness levels get superhero strong with kettlebells, while supporting three causes close to my heart.
  • Military service members. Current and former U.S. Military service members suffering with PTSD and physical disabilities are always welcome to train with us at no charge.
  • Youth, ages 10 – 13, who may be at risk of being bullied. We are going to develop a program to help build confidence and strength!
  • Rescue animals. Right at the heart of Black Dog are rescue animals. We will not only spread the word about pet adoption (especially senior and special needs dogs), we will also donate 100% of profits to local animal rescues.

I am excited (also scared!) to be able to expand and grow in this manner. I’m not quite sure why. It’s a want to and not a have to. It’s just something I was drawn to do.

There’s still a lot of work to be done and as I’ve learned, things will change as needed as we go. We will also use the space for some of our Dragonfly training…and we’ll offer some classes in addition to kettlebell. This will in no way take away from our great coaching, our community or our giving that we do at Dragonfly. If anything, it’s going to add to our community. To be honest, there’s never been an abundance of time or money for our charity endeavors…it’s important to me so I just figure it out or put in the extra time.
I wanted to give a special thanks to our current team for their support! (And we are currently looking to add part-time coaches and a front desk team member if you know anyone that may be a good fit! (Info here.) And a huge thank you to members who have offered help, words of encouragement and who had questions because they know someone that might be interested in joining! ❤️
Stay tuned! I’m hoping we are ready to go by the beginning of March. As always, thanks for reading! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at renah@dft-stl.com (I may not have all the answers, but if I do I will share).
