Get Stronger With Lift

We all know that exercise is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. (We all do know that, right?!) But there are certain things in our fitness journeys that we may tend to overlook or even shy away from for fear of the unknown. I’ll go ahead and let the cat out of the bag… it’s strength training! You know… lifting weights and learning how to do it well.

You don’t have to aspire to be a powerlifter… but there is overwhelming research in support of utilizing strength training in our lives especially as we age! It helps if you know the primary reason behind some of our structured classes.

The two classes that make up the “meat & potatoes” at Dragonfly, Lift & CardioStrong, are different! And that’s by design. In our CardioStrong classes, we work to give you a training experience that builds your cardiovascular fitness.

Conversely, in our Lift classes we work towards building muscular strength and perfecting certain movements. You know, getting stronger! When you have reached the recommended number of repetitions, you should feel like you are really “done.” If you feel like you can keep going beyond the recommended repetitions, it’s likely time to make the exercise more challenging. Ask a coach what is the best way for YOU to ensure you’re getting the most out of your Lift workouts.

Getting strong doesn’t happen overnight! And that’s part of the fun of it! This can truly be one of the things that becomes a lifelong skill that we work towards perfecting each and every time we walk in to the studio.

What are some of the non-scale victories that we can celebrate? This is one of them. I have loved seeing progress from workout to workout over the years. And it doesn’t have to be that I’m lifting more weight – it could be that I’m lifting the same amount of weight but doing it better, recovering faster, or increasing the amount of reps I can do. And… if nothing else, I love that this stuff makes us a little harder to kill.
