Congratulations to our December Member of the Month, Holly!
Cardio may have worked when I was younger, but now that I’m in my 50s I knew that I needed to add some muscle. I wasn’t motivated enough to work out at home, and there was no way I was going to join one of those other gyms. Dragonfly is just down the street from my house and on the way home from work. I knew my friend Amy P. was a member. She’s the one who convinced me to try it out. Thanks Amy!
What’s your favorite class to take?
Row Remix. I love rowing and working with a partner.
What’s one lesson you’ve learned (inside or outside the gym!) since starting at Dragonfly?
So many lessons learned! Trust yourself. You’re stronger than you think.
What would you say to other ladies who might be nervous to start strength training?
It’s pretty awesome when you notice the changes, like that 30 lb. bag of dog food that used to be really heavy isn’t so heavy anymore.
Bonus: What’s your favorite type of music or specific songs to work out to?
Mostly 80s. Here’s (more than) a few: New Order – Temptation, B52s – Give me back my man, Big Country – In a big country, Depeche Mode- Everything counts, Modern English – I melt with you, Big Audio Dynamite- E=MC2, Nenah Cherry – Buffalo Stance, INXS- Don’t change, Beastie Boys – Intergalactic, Echo and the Bunnymen- Lips like sugar, The Cure – Just like heaven, Skinny Puppy – The choke, Front 242 – Headhunter, Leftfield – Open up. And I discovered during Rowvember that the best album for rowing 5000 meters is Broken Bells first album. It’s just the right amount of chill and groove to put me in a meditative state. I can send you a much longer list if you want me to. Haha!
