December Member of the Month: Jen

By December 7, 2018 blog

Jen spreads a little bit of sunshine around because she always has a smile on her face…even at 6am! And you can count on Jen to be in class doing her very best…she works hard, encourages others, and applies everything she has learned so that she can rise and grind! We love your spirit Jen!

We asked Jen a few questions about training and here’s what she had to say.

What did your fitness journey look like before coming to Dragonfly?
I’ve always found gyms to be intimidating, plus, I really need a buddy. Left to my own devices I will always choose sleep over exercise. For a long time, I walked every morning with my neighbor, but then she moved away. After that I worked with a trainer for a while, which did keep me exercising but was very expensive. I’d never considered group classes because things like spinning just don’t appeal to me. So I started Dragonfly hoping I’d like it but not sure what to expect. It’s been really wonderful to get to know the other women and now I have many exercise buddies. We share successes and challenges, and they help keep me motivated. Perfect!
What’s your favorite class?
Row! I’d never rowed before coming to Dragonfly and I didn’t know what I was missing. I get my heart rate way up without the stress on my knees that comes with running. Friday mornings just aren’t complete without rowing.
Have you noticed any unexpected effects from your training?
My sleep is so much better. Especially since I increased the number of times per week that I train. Even when I don’t get a lot of sleep, it’s better quality.
What personal record or accomplishment are you most proud of? (Humble brag away!!)
I think I’m most proud of learning to row. My 500 meter PR has steadily gotten faster and faster and I’m very close to getting it under 2 minutes. I’m really looking forward to writing that on the wall.
Bonus – How do you think your Dragonfly coaches would describe you?
Hahahahahahahaha I laugh at me, so I hope that you guys laugh at me, too. Like when I do something not-so-graceful. 😀  Seriously, though, I hope you both would describe me as consistent and good natured.
