Congrats to our fabulous February Member of the Month…Holly! Holly has been with Dragonfly for more than 2 years, and her dedication continually amazes us. Not only is Holly working full-time, she just started back to school—all while keeping up with her DFT sessions, the 13.Fun half-marathon training, and improving her nutrition through our Living Lean Program.
Holly never gives up! Not to mention, through it all, she has a great attitude and cheers on her peers!
We chatted with Holly about her fitness routine, and here’s what she had to say!
What’s your favorite exercise/equipment to use?
I love to lift all the heavy things! I love deadlifting, battle ropes, ab work, rowing, group runs, hitting and especially kicking the bags, and TRX of course. Oh, and my week wouldn’t be complete without my adult timeout—yoga.
What’s your most memorable PR or fitness goal you are working towards?
From a mental standpoint, the fact that I have stuck with a regular exercise routine for more than a few weeks has been a huge accomplishment for me.
On the physical level, deadlifting 150 lbs was a huge PR for me. Running a 5k and my first 10k last year was awesome, and I can’t wait to run my first half marathon in April. I am also working on doing a push-up from the ground. I’m not there yet but have made great improvements on them, and one day soon a full push-up from the ground will happen.
What would you say to other ladies who might be nervous to start strength training?
The hardest part about strength training is showing up. You will surprise yourself at how much you can actually do that you never thought you could.
The best thing about strength training is you are only competing with yourself and no one else, so don’t worry about what the person next to you is doing—just do your workout. The only training sessions that I have ever regretted are the the ones I didn’t make. The added bonus of strength training, besides being able to actually carry all your groceries in at one time, is the feeling of empowerment that you have afterwards.
Extra: What’s your favorite type of music/specific songs to workout to?
My music taste are all over the board, so it varies. A fun 80s playlist always makes cardio better, and an intense playlist helps me when lifting. Basically, if it has a good beat and I can dance to it, then it’s all good.
I have to admit my guilty pleasure is Limp Bizkit’s “Break Stuff.” When that comes on my playlist, I could race the Road Runner.
Thanks for being an awesome Dragonfly, Holly!
