August Member of the Month: “The focus is on what you CAN do”

Congratulations to our August Member of the Month, Kathy! Our trainers love Kathy’s positive attitude and how welcoming she is to new members, making them feel like part of the group from the very start. And Kathy’s been with Dragonfly from the start!

Having started training with Renah back when Dragonfly was boot camps in the park, Kathy is 4 years strong and truly exemplifies all that Dragonfly is. Renah says she always does her very best and cheers on other members. That is truly what this community is all about!

We asked Kathy a bit about her training routine, and this is what she had to say:

What’s your favorite exercise/equipment to use?

Ropes, ladder, rower, wall balls, TRX, Surfboards, TRX Rip … to name a few!

Most Memorable PR or fitness goal you are working toward?

I remember the first time I was able to actually pull myself up over the bar and do a chin-up. That was a big day, and I shocked myself. Someday, I will conquer the push-up.

What would you say to other ladies who might be nervous to start strength training?

It’s completely normal to be nervous. But now that I’m on the other end of those nerves, I know from experience there’s nothing to be nervous about at DFT. Everyone is so welcoming, and no one is paying any attention to you — and I mean that in the nicest way possible! We build up all these fears that we will be judged for what we can’t do … or how we might look in fitness clothes. The truth is, no one cares about those things! We are all there to support one another and encourage one another. No matter your ability, age, body type, weight, etc … we are all there to better ourselves.

Dragonfly is a community of remarkable women who will welcome you with open arms and help you discover all that your body can do. That’s just it! The focus is on what you CAN do, and not on what you CAN’T. Even the “most fit” people have issues and can’t do certain things. That’s okay — there is always something else that you CAN DO!

Extra: What’s your favorite type of music/specific songs to work out to?

I love music — all kinds of it. I’ve always had a difficult time sitting still when a good song comes on. At Dragonfly, where we are encouraged to move all the time, it helps to have a funky beat that makes me want to shake my booty. Anything but Aerosmith!  🙂
