Congratulations to our April Member of the Month, Christy! The coaches here at Dragonfly say Christy is outgoing, encouraging to new members, and always willing to step outside her comfort zone to try new things!
Coach Renah says, “I believe Christy understands the hard work that has to be put in to achieve any goal, and she’s willing to work for it.” Her coaches love how she’s willing to practice to get her form right and always wants feedback. Best of all, she has a great attitude and has really grown to love working out!
We asked Christy about her training, and this is what she had to say:
What did your fitness journey look like before coming to Dragonfly?
I made the decision in March of 2017 that I needed to work on myself. I was at the highest weight I had ever been, and I was tired of always being tired and not being able to do things without getting out of breath or worn out. A friend and I were at lunch, and we decided right then that we were going to start making changes to be healthier.
I ran with it. I gave up soda and other sugary drinks and tried to be more mindful of what I was eating. About a month into it, I realized I needed to add some form of exercise — so I started walking. At first, I could only do 15 or 20 minutes of moderately paced walking before I would get winded. It was difficult, but I forced myself to do it every day. As it got easier, I would add more time. I worked my way up to 45 minutes per day. I knew I needed to add other forms of exercise, but I wasn’t sure how or what to do. Then Renah spoke at a Women’s Luncheon at my job, and I knew that I had to check out DFT. I set up my consultation a week later and have been a member ever since.
What’s your favorite class to take?
I love the kettlebell class. It gives you an opportunity to work on proper form and technique in a class dedicated to the kettlebell. Since we use the kettlebell movements in all of the other classes, I feel this class helps me achieve better form and higher weight without taking away from the workout in another class.
Have you noticed any unexpected effects from your training?
I have noticed improvement in my sleep habits. I used to have difficulty falling and staying asleep. I think that had a lot to do with both my food choices and my fitness level. Now that I feel healthier and am in better shape — I tend to be more active during the day and more worn out at night. Since I love sleep, this has been a great side effect. Lol.
What personal record or accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am super proud of achieving my 1-year weight loss goal. I wanted to be under 200 pounds by the end of my 1st year — which I was able to accomplish. In addition to the weight loss, I am really proud of how hard I am pushing myself to try new things and put forth effort each day to be better than the day before. I used to psych myself out of things and tell myself I could never do certain things because of how out of shape I was. I am working hard every day to change that mindset and to reach for new goals.
Bonus: How do you think your Dragonfly trainers would describe you?
Ha. This is an interesting question. I hope they see me as hard-working and determined, but I also hope they see that I am friendly, outgoing, and open to new things.
You’re right on the money there, Christy! That’s exactly how everyone here at DFT sees you! Thanks for being such an awesome Dragonfly!
